While both chips are built on advanced nodes – the Snapdragon on a 3nm process and the Exynos on a 2nm – the real-world performance difference is stark, particularly in battery life.
A test conducted by YouTuber “Android Addicts” shows the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 version lasting 9 hours and 26 minutes on a single charge. In contrast, the Exynos 2600 clocked in at just 6 hours and 48 minutes. That’s a substantial gap, representing nearly a third longer battery life with the Qualcomm chip.
It’s not simply a matter of comparing phones from different brands, as numerous factors can skew battery tests. But with identical hardware and software otherwise, this difference is difficult to ignore. The disparity suggests that Samsung's Exynos 2600 may not achieve the same level of energy efficiency as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
While software updates might offer some mitigation, the magnitude of the difference – over two hours of extra screen time – hints at a deeper architectural disparity. The Exynos 2600's performance, as revealed by this test, appears unlikely to be significantly improved through software adjustments.
Samsung has confirmed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will be exclusive to the US, China, and Japan. The Galaxy S26 Ultra will also exclusively feature the Qualcomm chip, regardless of region. This split in chipsets raises questions about transparency. The US market benefits from a clear advantage. Those purchasing a Galaxy S26 in regions with the Exynos 2600 should be prepared for a notable reduction in battery endurance.
So, if you’re in the US and find a suspiciously low price on a Galaxy S26, investigate the chipset. The extra screen time afforded by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 could be a worthwhile investment.
