A report from GalaxyClub suggests the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, expected later this year alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, might finally incorporate 5G connectivity. This development aligns with rumors of a processor upgrade to Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, which includes integrated 5G functionality. The model number for the device is reportedly SM-L716.

For years, Samsung lagged behind in implementing 5G across its wearable lineup. The original Galaxy Watch Ultra, launched in 2022, lacked this key feature, a noticeable difference from Apple's recent additions to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11. This move feels like a belated catch-up, but a welcome one for users accustomed to the speed and convenience of 5G.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is anticipated to launch this summer, alongside other Galaxy devices. While the standard Galaxy Watch 9 is rumored to stick with the Exynos W10 chipset, the Ultra model's shift to the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor signals a significant upgrade. It’s a long-overdue move, especially considering Samsung's earlier foray into 5G with the Galaxy S10 5G in 2019.

The addition of 5G isn't revolutionary, but it represents a practical improvement. It’s about delivering the connectivity users increasingly expect from their devices – a seamless extension of their mobile lives onto their wrists. This isn't just about faster downloads; it’s about enabling new possibilities for real-time data and enhanced functionality.

Samsung’s belated embrace of 5G in its wearables highlights a broader trend: the relentless evolution of connectivity. The race to provide users with faster, more reliable connections continues, and Samsung is finally joining the sprint.
