Oppo to join google's airdrop-like file sharing soon

Android users will soon be able to seamlessly share files with Apple devices thanks to the expansion of Google’s Quick Share feature. Oppo has announced that its upcoming Find X9 series will gain support for AirDrop-like file transfers by the end of March. This development marks a significant step toward greater interoperability between Android and iOS ecosystems.

Quick share expands beyond pixel phones

The feature, initially exclusive to Google's Pixel 10 series, began rolling out to Pixel 9 models earlier this year. This move represents Google's commitment to bridging the gap between the two dominant mobile operating systems, a task that has long frustrated users.

Oppo’s implementation relies on a close collaboration with MediaTek and Google to integrate the updated Android Quick Share. Users will be able to transfer files securely and easily between OPPO smartphones and iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices without relying on third-party apps. The update will arrive as a software update for compatible devices.

While the addition of AirDrop-like functionality to more Android phones is welcome, some users still desire the feature on older devices and more affordable models. Google’s commitment to expanding Quick Share's reach suggests that future updates will likely include broader device compatibility.

The rollout of this feature highlights the ongoing competition between Android and iOS, as both platforms strive to offer users the most convenient and intuitive cross-device experiences. The seamless transfer of files between devices is no longer a luxury; it's becoming a standard expectation.
