Google translate adds pinned languages for faster switching

Google Translate is streamlining its interface with a new feature allowing users to pin up to 10 frequently used languages. The update, rolling out with version 10.8.48.878519627.2 of the app, offers a welcome improvement for multilingual users navigating conversations or documents.

Easier language switching on the go

The addition addresses a longtime friction point: the need to constantly rearrange the 'Recent languages' list when dealing with multiple languages. Previously, adding a new language would push one off the readily accessible nine-language list.

The "Pinned languages" section sits above the "Recent languages" list, providing permanent access to your top language choices. Users can pin languages by swiping right on them in the "Recent languages" area and tapping the pin icon. Removal is equally straightforward.

While I haven't yet received the update on my Pixel 6 Pro (Android 17 Beta 2), it's functional on my iPhone 15 Pro Max (iOS 26.4 Beta 3). For Android users, the update is available via the Google Play Store. iOS users can find it on the App Store.

The feature may seem small, but for those who regularly translate between several languages – whether for travel, work, or personal connection – the convenience is significant. It’s a testament to Google’s continued refinement of a tool that has already touched over one trillion words monthly.

The core function remains: bridging linguistic divides. This update simply makes the process of doing so a little less cumbersome. And in a world increasingly interconnected, that matters.
