Galaxy z fold 8 vs. iphone fold: samsung faces a tough fold-off

The tech world is abuzz. As 2026 progresses, Samsung is gearing up for the unveiling of its Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, but the spotlight is firmly on the Fold. Why? Because Apple’s long-rumored iPhone Fold is poised to be its fiercest competitor. The stakes are high.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a significant challenge ahead. It's stepping into a market rapidly evolving, particularly after the somewhat underwhelming Galaxy Z Fold 6. That model, while a step forward, still suffered from a noticeable inner screen crease and a bulkier design – issues Samsung is keen to address.

Design and size: a noticeable shift

Visually, expect the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to echo the design language introduced with the Z Fold 7: a slimmer profile and a less pronounced crease. The familiar Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back panels remain. However, the hinge is a key area of potential change. Rumors suggest a switch from titanium to carbon fiber-reinforced plastic, aiming for a lighter device.

Dimensionally, the Fold 8 is anticipated to be similar to its predecessor – around 8.9mm thick when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded. While sleek for a foldable, rivals are already vying for that title. Water and dust resistance are expected to remain at IP48, though an IP68 rating, aligning with competitors like the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, would be a welcome upgrade.

The core displays – the 8-inch inner and 6.5-inch outer – are expected to carry over from the Z Fold 7. The real intrigue lies in potential improvements to the crease.
